TÜV SÜD Rail provides extensive range of digitalisation and sustainability services
TÜV SÜD at InnoTrans 2022
(lifePR) (München, )
TÜV SÜD Rail will exhibit at InnoTrans 2022 in its capacity as expert provider of testing, inspection and certification (TIC) services for the rail sector. The company will focus on presenting its testing and inspection services for IT security, its support for alternative propulsion systems and the new generation of TÜV SÜD wheelset technology. InnoTrans will be held in Berlin from 20 to 23 September 2022. (CityCube, Stand 680)
As open networked systems such as GSM-R, the wireless communication standard for the rail network, and the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) become increasingly prevalent in the rail industry, its security and threat landscape is undergoing fundamental change. The assessment, testing and certification services supplied by TÜV SÜD Rail help manufacturers, operators and system providers to get to grips with the new risks confronting systems, applications and products, to verify their IT security status and to develop appropriate security measures to reduce risks, such as applying for IEC 62443 or TS 50701 certification.
Alternative propulsion systems and new generation of wheelsets
Global calls for increased sustainability and improved energy efficiency are encouraging the development of alternative propulsion systems. In the rail sector, this will primarily involve hydrogen technologies and hybrid drive solutions. Development of these cutting-edge technologies must include the creation of harmonised interfaces and evaluation of potential risks if the safety, security and reliability of rail operations is to be guaranteed. As the necessary regulations are still in preparation, TÜV SÜD is supporting a number of international pilot projects, including FCH2Rail, by providing independent safety and security assessments.
In addition, TÜV SÜD’s stand at InnoTrans will present IWT5, the company’s fifth-generation instrumented wheelset technology. These wheelsets are fitted with appropriately calibrated electronic equipment and are used to accurately measure the dynamic contact forces at the wheel/rail interface. IWT5 features an array of new technologies, including a telemetry system delivering improved performance and stability. The new instrumented wheelsets can further be used on all common wheel axes. As there is no need for installation of a test wheel, the time taken up for testing is reduced.
