Emerson Automation Solutions Exhibiting at Plastimagen 2022

Emerson is demonstrating its worldwide leadership in plastics assembly and process monitoring and optimization during the Plastimagen 2022 trade show on March 8-11 in Centro Citibanamex, Mexico City. Emerson is exhibiting in Booth 324A.

The Emerson display includes live welding demonstrations made possible by the Branson™ line of material joining products that includes laser, ultrasonic, vibration and heat-staking systems with applications in automotive, medical, electronics and other demanding industries. Also featured is Emerson’s AVENTICS™ flow sensor technology, which monitors pneumatic air consumption and enables rapid intervention in the event of leakage, preventing excessive costs and machine breakdown.

Branson GSX-E1 Ultrasonic Welding Platform
Of special interest to plastics product manufacturers is an advanced and intuitive flexible joining solution. The Elite Precision+ version of the Branson GSX-E1 ultrasonic welder uses a new, patent-pending “dynamic mode” to overcome the limitations of single-parameter weld mode controls typically found on conventional ultrasonic welders. Ideal for parts that might have been hard to handle in the past, dynamic mode leverages the welder’s advanced electromechanical actuation system and optimizes the welding process through computing power and cutting-edge algorithms. Controls automatically monitor, recalculate and adjust multiple weld parameters in real time (e.g., force, weld energy, velocity, distance) to achieve optimal, user-specified results (e.g., consistent insert depth/position and pull strength).

Branson GSX welders help manufacturers get new products to market quickly, while maintaining high levels of quality and delivering a fast return on investment. The GSX platform is highly configurable and modular, which shortens delivery times with automation-ready modules tailored to meet budget and performance requirements. Precise, accurate welds are fully repeatable, while intuitive, easy-to-use hardware and software features enable traceability, fast setups and product changeovers. These features simplify operations and reduce labor, operating and process costs.

IIoT-Enabled Flow Sensor Monitors Air Loss to Optimize Energy Usage
Emerson’s AVENTICS Series AF2 flow sensor monitors air consumption, enabling rapid intervention in the event of leakage, preventing excessive cost and machine breakdown

The AVENTICS AF2 pneumatic system’s flow sensor monitors energy losses and helps to prevent machine breakdowns and costs associated with excessive air consumption. The sensor continuously monitors the air consumption in pneumatic systems, enabling compliance with the energy management standard DIN ISO 50001. Suitable for use in many industries, the device is just one of many components available from Emerson for networked plants in factory automation, known as the industrial internet of things (IIoT).

The AVENTICS AF2 sensor records the flow rate and compressed-air consumption in a system, sending a signal to the controller when preset levels are exceeded. An organic light emitting diode (OLED) display on the AF2 provides local indication of all relevant operating and diagnostic data.

An IO-Link capability and Ethernet interface enable users to employ the optimum approach to communicating with existing controllers. Open platform communications unified architecture (OPC UA) and message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT), the preferred communications protocols for Industry 4.0, are integrated into the AF2 sensor. In addition, the AF2 has a web-based dashboard showing real-time data for the users.

Modular construction ensures easy installation, and small dimensions mean it can be installed where space is limited. The AVENTICS AF2 is delivered pre-calibrated together with its filter.
